Port Whangarei Extends a Warm Welcome to the Pacific Fleet

The Port Whangarei Marine Centre (PWMC) has been busy, along with other Port Whangarei colleagues, meeting with and greeting new arrivals transiting through the South Pacific as part of their world cruise. Currently enjoying the amazing experiences the atolls and tropical islands can provide, they will soon be turning their minds to the exodus from the tropics to the summer safe havens. Foremost amongst these is New Zealand and in particular Port Whangarei.

The Port provides the ideal location for the summer stopover with great berthage, maintenance services and haulout facilities. In almost any famous cruising, yarn that you will read, the Port and in particular its famous Town Basin, will feature. Whether it’s just a summer stop or a year or more while you fly home for a break, this is the place that fulfils all requirements.

The PWMC is part of the Oceania Marine Shipyards group and operates a dual travel lift haulout facility within the Port. It specialises in vessels under 20 metres with an efficient and economic service tailored to their requirements. Extra wide travel lift docks and machines combined with spacious hardstand makes the yard popular with catamarans. It’s a full service yard with extensive sealed hardstand and refit shed space. Anything from a quick pressure wash and antifoul to a full refit can be provided by Oceania Marine’s specialised workteams and network of contractors/suppliers.

Yacht crews are supported whilst they work through their own worklists and ‘live-aboards’ are provided with clean, modern facilities for their stay. Additionally, the City of Whangarei has an engaging Café culture with the Northland region being one of New Zealand’s top recreational and holiday destinations. This ensures an enjoyable and engaging stay at Port Whangarei.

Nathan Tomlinson, the yard’s Yacht Support Agent comments;

“I have just returned from Fiji and am pleased to say that what the PWMC and New Zealand generally has to offer was well received by the vessels I was able to visit whilst there. The number of sailing catamarans cruising the South Pacific continues to grow. The fact that we have optimised the yard and operations to handle the special requirements of multihulls with no multihull surcharge make us an attractive option for this class of vessel. This combined with being service agents for major brands ensures we can cater for every need.”
