Oceania Marine Upgrades Refit Shed at Port Whangarei Marine Centre

The Port Whangarei Marine Centre at South Shipyard in New Zealand has extensive hardstand and undercover refit shed space. New doors have been fitted to the South end of the 120×20 metre Bay 2 which allows the 100 tonnes travel lift direct access into the shed. This triples the undercover floor space available for refit projects at the marine centre that can be efficiently serviced by the travel lift. Oceania Marine’s Marketing Manager, Jim Loynes, comments;

“Bay 2 has always been a bit problematic for us as the door lintels were too low for the travel lift and the restricted air draft at the entrance made it unsuitable for many projects. The new entrance has a healthy 11.3 metre clearance and a 14 metre width. This will be an ideal space particularly for sail yachts in need of a big refit.”

No sooner were the works completed and the first big project has moved in. It involves the conversion of a commercial high speed foil assisted catamaran into a private motor yacht to be completed by Oceania Marine Refit Services.
