As the Southern Hemisphere enters winter the global cruising fleet has departed from Port Whangarei for the Pacific tropical islands. The attraction being that the Southern tropical latitudes are safe from cyclones and experience dryer conditions at this time of year with the added advantage of stable trade winds. For New Zealand the domestic fleet enters it’s maintenance season when both recreational and commercial vessels haulout for antifouling, repairs and survey.
